FSU Film School Graduation Photos

Madeleine

Not too long ago Madeleine and her family hired me to capture photos for her bachelor’s degree graduation. It was a beautiful day with even more beautiful images coming out of that grad shoot. This past summer, Madeleine’s family again contacted me to take graduation photos. But this time, for her incredible accomplishment of finishing her Master’s degree from the Florida State University College of Motion Picture Arts! Madeleine worked incredibly hard over the last two years; from 14-hour days on set to long nights in the shop creating all sorts of props and monsters for her fellow student’s short films. Getting to create some unique and memorable photography for this event was one I couldn’t pass up!

Madeleine specialized in Production Design, meaning her focus was on the props, makeup, set design, and character design for each of the films she worked on. While over the course of her Master’s Degree she had the chance to work on and create her own short films falling into a variety of genres, her passion lies with horror. With her favorite movies being classic slashers such as Scream, Halloween, and Nightmare on Elm Street (just to name a few) it has been her dream since she was a little kid to work on TV and movie sets creating monsters for the big screen! Knowing this, we decided to add some unique flare to the grad shoot using some of the very same props she created along her filmmaking journey! To her, the most memorable is the skull mask and flower crown she created for a student horror film centered around the legend of La Llorona! This made for some spooky but stunning photos all with the film school as the backdrop!

Of course, the movie props and nods to some of her favorite horror slashers were a fun addition, we couldn’t leave without creating some classic but beautiful cap and gown photos around Doak Campbell Stadium; one of my favorite spots is Heritage Tower. This lovely fountain is just a stone's throw from the College of Motion Picture Arts and is a spot I encourage most students to utilize in their grad sessions.

Our photography session lasted just over an hour and we were able to produce so many incredible images I just know Madeleine and her family will cherish for years to come. Following her graduation, Madeleine plans to relocate to the west coast to pursue her dream of filmmaking and production design! Now that we’ve finished, I’m excitedly waiting for the next opportunity I get to photograph another FSU film school grad on their special day!
